Walterboro, SC - Libertas Academy Colleton is proud to announce that School Director Destiny Grant has been named Rookie of the Year by the Charter Institute at Erskine during its Eighth Annual Awards Banquet in Columbia, South Carolina.
The award recognizes outstanding leadership and impact among first-year charter school leaders across the state, honoring those who demonstrate exceptional dedication, leadership, and meaningful impact within their school communities. Grant earned the honor while leading Libertas Academy Colleton through its inaugural school year, a milestone achievement for both the school and the community that it serves.
“I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said Destiny Grant, School Director of Libertas Academy Colleton. “This award is truly a reflection of the incredible students, families, staff and partners who believed in our vision from day one. Opening a new school comes with both immense responsibility and incredible opportunity. We believe deeply in the potential of our students and the future of this community, and this recognition only strengthens our commitment to that mission.”
Serving students and families in Colleton County, a rural South Carolina community with longstanding educational and economic challenges, Libertas Academy Colleton was founded to increase opportunity and create transformational outcomes for local students.
Under Grant’s leadership, the school has quickly established a strong culture focused on academic excellence, student growth and meaningful community engagement. Since opening its doors, Libertas Academy Colleton has worked to create an environment where students are known, supported, and challenged to succeed.
“Destiny’s leadership throughout Libertas Academy Colleton’s first year has been nothing short of exceptional,” said Alyssa Granados, Executive Director of Tutelage School Solutions. “Launching and leading a first-year school is an enormous undertaking in any circumstance, but doing so in a historically underserved community makes this recognition especially meaningful. Destiny has built a culture centered around high expectations, student success, and genuine care for families, and we are incredibly proud of the impact she and her team are already making in Colleton County.”
The Charter Institute at Erskine’s Annual Awards Banquet celebrates excellence and innovation among South Carolina charter schools, students and educators. As Libertas Academy Colleton prepares for its second year in its new, permanent location, this recognition serves as both a celebration of the school’s first-year success and motivation for continued growth and excellence in years ahead.
